The Fremont Troll
by Pam Koons
A gigantic friendly Troll has been spotted under the Seattle Aurora Ave. Bridge! The Fremont Troll has been intriguing preschoolers and Seattle families since 1989. If your preschooler has read the 3 Billy Goats Gruff, then h/she will not want to miss taking a day trip down to the Fremont District to climb on the 18 ft. Fremont Troll and pose for a most unusual photo op!

Your preschooler will notice that one of the Troll’s eyes is an actual hubcap, supposedly left-over from the VW Beetle that the ominous Troll is squishing with one hand! Don’t forget to tell your preschooler this is supposed to be art!
Being underneath the big Aurora Bridge is exciting in itself! Make sure your preschooler looks UP to see the cars passing for a thrilling experience.
Definitely take a camera with you, as the photo ops are just too cute to miss! Note there’s very little parking on the street as the Troll is at a dead end, so expect a short walk.
Happy Troll O'Ween! Bring a costumed preschooler to celebrate “Troll O’Ween” which takes place Halloween night, sponsored by the Fremont Arts Council in honor of the Troll’s birthday! Your preschooler can join the Troll’s festive community in dance, music, trick or treating, and a bit of haunting from the old Troll himself!

Every Thursday from 11-11:30, take your preschooler to the Fremont Library Branch for a preschool story time with music, fun, and other activities.
The artsy little Fremont business community is nearby and well-known for its kitschy shops and restaurants. The businesses are very preschooler-friendly, often having toys around while their parents shop. Stop by Costas Opa, a traditional Seattle Greek restaurant with fantastic food!
