Sponge Language School

by Pam Koons

Girl Dressed in Kimono, Shichi-Go-San Festival (Festival for Three, Five, Seven Year Old Children)Your preschooler can have wonderful culturally-rich experiences as they “soak up” a foreign language at Seattle’s Sponge School for children ages birth thru six years. Many learning studies show that the earlier a preschooler is creatively immersed into another culture, the easier a time they will have in the future with formal language instruction. The Sponge school offers preschoolers and their parents creative cultural and language activities taught by native world-language teachers.

What Preschoolers will Love about the Sponge Language School

At each class, children are totally immersed and exposed to a variety of art, song, drama, dance, food, crafts, play and language activities. Preschoolers will have great fun while they gain knowledge, sensitivity and acceptance of other cultures. Pick from French, Mandarin, Japanese and Spanish languages taught by enthusiastic native-speaking teachers.

Each 18-week session has 3 different high-energy preschool themes that your preschooler should already be familiar with. Don’t be surprised if your preschooler picks up an accent!

What Parents will Love about the Sponge Language School

PMexico: Two Peasant Childrenarents can learn a world-language right along with their preschooler; however there are child-only longer classes available if your preschooler is ready. There is no wrong way to pick a language; maybe choose one from your own background! Classes are small, with only eight preschoolers per teacher.

Each language has a creative, standardized curriculum based upon immersion and repetition. If your child is ready, they can attend language classes independently, or with you at their side. This can be a wonderfully enriching, family-experience. Handouts and updates are given at the end of each class to re-inforce the lessons, and preschoolers can start at any time (class fees are pro-rated).

What Parents Should Know about the Sponge Language School

The Sponge Language School offers trial classes on a space available basis. Call ahead for a reservation.

Learning a foreign language does not come cheap. While it is a wonderful experience for your preschooler, parents can expect to pay $499 for eighteen 55-minute Child-Parent classes, and $620 for eighteen 85-minute Just-Kids classes.
