Chang's Mongolian Grill

by Pam Koons

Chang’s Mongolian Grill offers a family “hands-on” Asian eating experience you and your preschooler will never forget. Imagine being able to see your meal stir-fried right in front of your eyes!

What Preschoolers will Love about Chang’s Mongolian Grill

Chefs Cooking Large Serve of Kuay Tiaw Phat Thai, Bangkok, Thailand The Chang Experience. At the Grill, your preschooler can create an edible masterpiece! Each person gets to hand-pick out their own foods from a wide variety of healthy stir-fry choices, and then stand by the grill and watch it being cooked. This may not sound much different from what your preschooler does at home, except you get a break from doing all the cooking!

Chang's Food. The fresh meat and vegetable bar offers up so much variety that even the pickiest of preschool eaters can find yummy food to eat. There are about ten different choices of meat and seafood (try the lamb), twenty plus different vegetable and fruit choices (try the pineapple), and a huge variety of sauces and condiments to pick from- some spicy and some not.

Your preschooler can make their own personal combination. Then they load their plate up and take it over to the grill to watch the Chefs do the stir-frying. Each meal includes soup, steamed rice, wraps and a dessert of soft ice cream. Drinks are extra. Note- the Grill does not use MSG or preservatives, which is a plus for those children who have allergies.

The Chang Atmosphere. The Mongolian Grill Restaurants are very comfortable and casual, while not fine dining. Don’t feel a need to dress up! Since they are mainly buffet-style and “serve yourself”, there is very little waiting time nor interactions with impatient wait-staff. When you come back to your seat, there will be wraps, steamed rice and noodles on the table to accompany your stir-fry. Since there is little time for boredom, this is one restaurant your preschoolers will place on their list of favorites.

What Parents Should Know about Chang's Mongolian Grill

You can have one serving or as many as you like. Although they don’t let you take any doggie bags home, so come hungry. The restaurant can be a bit crowded at times and tables tend to be close to each other, so try getting a booth for more room.

The actual grill is a bit high. Be prepared to hold your preschooler up to see all the action first-hand. Since Chang's Mongolian Grill is already a bit noisy from the grilling, any noise your preschooler makes will just blend right in!
