Richmond Beach Saltwater Park
by Pam Koons
Richmond Beach Saltwater Park is one of the best “out of the way” saltwater beaches in the Seattle area! Your preschooler, your family and even your dog will have fun playing on one mile of white sandy beach, digging up tiny rock crabs in the shallow tide pools, collecting shells, wading in the water and trying out the large playground equipment. Perfect for beach loving preschoolers!
What Your Preschooler will Love about Richmond Beach Saltwater Park
Your preschooler will enjoy the park’s main seashore attractions, the tide loaded with saltwater shells, the amazing sea creatures (sand crabs are plentiful), the tiny rocks to lift and explore under, the soft white sand to build castles, and driftwood to construct forts with. Don’t forget to watch the ferries go by. Even if the day is a bit cloudy (as many days are), this beach will provide hours of fun for your preschooler. If it’s windy- bring a kite and go kite flying!
While not a large playground, your preschooler will love the 2 colorful climbing structures; especially the twisty slide that is perfect for all children. There is tall beach grass to play in, but be careful not to get lost in it!
What Parents will Love about Richmond Beach Saltwater Park
Your preschoolers will self-entertain themselves all day! Isn’t that always nice? Take this time to enjoy their play- and breathe in the salt air yourself!
The view is breath taking! Bring a camera and get some great shots of your family. Note- the beach patrol requires dogs be on a leash.
You will find ample parking at the playground and beach park areas. The beach paths are stoller-accessible. There are several restrooms (B- rating) scattered around the park and playground areas, as well as several covered shelters and many picnic tables.
What Parents Should Remember Beforehand
Richmond Beach Park is in a quiet residential area, but has a "big beach" feel- therefore it can be a bit tricky to find. Make sure you check ahead for directions! And watch for the brown beach sign!
Check the tides to note the best times for wading and tide pooling. The beach is wide, so even if the tide is in, there will be ample space for beach play.
Bring the usual sand toys, shovels, pails, blanket and sunscreen- even if cloudy. Note there is a quaint little beach store across from the entrance to the park. Stock up on beach food and supplies should you forget something.
