Once you visit this Seattle saltwater beach park’s water wonderland, your preschooler will wonder why you hadn’t gone before! At Kayak Point Beach Park, watch for Orca whales, sea kayakers, periwinkles, star fish, crabs and much more sea life. Visit their brand new awesome playground! If brave enough, try camping in their Yurts!
What Preschoolers Will Love About Kayak Point Park
Going down to the Bay for a day! At Kayak Point Park, your preschoolers can be on the hunt for Orca whales during the season between May thru August. Beachcombing here is plentiful, so your preschooler can collect many beautiful seashells (look for the periwinkles- they are lucky)!The Fishing Pier! The pier is a great place to walk down and watch the Kayakers, windsurfers, fisher people and crabbers.
Kayak Park Playground! (A+ rating) It will be a toss-up as to what your preschooler will love more- the beach or the new playground. There are so many (ten) unusual climbing structures, that you can play the day away.
Large Grassy Area for Running! There is a LOT of grass at Kayak Point Park, so be sure to let your preschoolers run their hearts out. Often you will see volleyball and other grass sports going on.
What Parents Will Love About Kayak Point Park
Kayak is a 428 acre regional day park, and has campgrounds, a boat launch, and a fishing pier, along with the Yurt camping village tucked back into the forested areas.If you like hiking with your preschooler, the trails are above the beach on the bluff and link down to the campgrounds. Views of Puget Sound are incredible. Stop by the Ranger Station on the way in to get a map.
The park restrooms here are very clean for park bathrooms (A- rating) and are located within a five minute walk from the beach and playground. Look up to the ceiling as the baby sparrows nest there.
Many free covered kiosks/picnic tables with BBQ’s are right along the beach and available year-round.
What Parents Should Know About Kayak Point Park
As with many saltwater beaches, the tide comes in fast. Please check the tides beforehand! Life jackets are available free to use at the beach.The big playground is right by the beach and super convenient. Benches are provided for big people.
Kayak Pt. may be a bit further away. Only 50 minutes from downtown Seattle, the park is well-worth the drive, so plan for an all-day trip or camping trip- perfect for a weekend. There are a few stores within an easy driving distance.
During the summer, Kayak park can get full. You may have to park above in the over-flow area. That means a nice walk going down to the beach, but a “hike” going back up! The walk is stroller- accessible on paved roads.
Kayak Point Campgrounds
Beautiful, clean, forested camping spots for tents and RV’s are available with easy hikes down to the beach. Check out the YURT camping village- it is a unique adventure!
